Blah.

Definitely going through a depressive phase right now. I've been in a funk, unable to move or think, for days now.

I finally got myself out of the house today to tutor, then I went to Nookie's. I've been drinking coffee and eating waffles all afternoon.

Waffles and coffee help. Screw my heart condition; the coffee is good.

(no subject)

Having gone without DBT for nearly a month, I was a teensy bit...antsy.  So, I started two decorative scarves:

Photo of shell scarf.

One with interlocking rows of shells (I made this one up) for my MiL...

Photo of Luna Lovegood's scarf

And one based on Luna Lovegood's scarf (found on ravelry) for my Mom.  By the end, it should look sort of like cathedral windows.  :)

I redyed my hair with some Manic Panic the other day.  It was definitely time for a touch-up.  Now, I'm all purple and awesome again. :D

The beginnings of an afghan.

I haven't had dbt in two weeks, and that's definitely starting to affect me. So, I started an afghan.

I'm making several (about 24?) of these squares, then I'll put them together so that 4 flowers are on the inside, and the double-crochet panels are on the outside, then sew each of those large panels together.

Hopefully I'll be done by the time it gets cold again. This is my first afghan, and it's taken me about 4 hrs to get about 1/12 of the way done. I have a feeling burnout will happen soon. :/

I had to make the tea cozy with yellow yarn because I ran out of the purple. Not as pretty, but just as effective. :D I may post photos soon...you guys deserve to see a finished project, haha.

Tea Cozy. Because I'm 80.

Two photos of the purple tea cozy (keeps a teapot warm) I'm currently crocheting. The first shows the circle forming the bottom, the second shows that with one face of the cozy begun.

That's a nice, bowlish shape, yes?

It's very warm here today - high around 70F. I'm not even wearing a jacket or sweater. It's been a weird winter.

Ugh. Strep.

I hate youuu.

My tonsils are swollen so badly that I can barely breathe, much less swallow. I keep remembering the summer when I was 8, when I first got sick; it started out as strep then.

My amazing mother-in-law has breast cancer. Hopefully, they'll be able to just excise it.

Nose sweater

My aunt asked for a "nose sweater" while I was teaching her partner how to crochet, so I made her one. It's shaped like a flower, about the size of the circle made by your thumb and forefinger. It would also make a good eyepatch, lol.

Boy Scouts

I gave a speech tonight about how to serve scouts with disabilities. Working with the scouts is always weird because of my gender identity, sexual orientation, and atheism, but I figure that there's no reason to deprive the kids by, you know, admitting any of that.

I'm now being recruited to do every scouts with disabilities event ever. That's fun...

Bookleggers!

I stopped by Bookleggers today and picked up a couple of things - A Confederacy of Dunces and Everything's Eventual, a collection of short stories by Stephen King. I'm also currently reading Gems of Dharma, Jewels of Liberation by Je Gampopa, Heart Advice from a Mahamudra Master by Gendun Rinpoche, Prayers for a Planetary Pilgrim by Edward Hays, and Fledgling by Octavia Butler.

My attention span may be a bit short at the moment, but I highly recommend everything except Confederacy, only because I haven't started it yet. Butler is, as always, amazing, and Gendun Rinpoche is brilliant. Hays's book has prayers for everything, from prayers before praying to Winter prayers to a urine prayer. That last one's actually pretty awesome.
